Perfect for:

Day 1 - Riverside Arrival & Canopy Colours

Early morning flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado, expected to arrive between 8:00 am and 12:30 pm. Upon landing, receive a warm welcome at the Puerto Maldonado airport.

Enjoy a 1.5-hour boat ride on the Madre de Dios River from the Taricaya Ecological Reserve office to the Taricaya Research Center. Settle into your accommodation and lunch with the staff and volunteers.

In the afternoon, explore the Rescue Center's facilities and embark on a 20-minute forest walk to the canopy walkway, offering stunning views of the forest canopy and wildlife. Witness a colorful sunset from a 140-foot-high platform.

Return to the Rescue Center for dinner at 7:00 pm. For the adventurous, an optional nighttime boat ride in search of caimans and nocturnal animals is available at 8:00 pm. Let the sounds of the forest lull you to sleep at 9:30 pm. Alternatively, those opting for the Tree Canopy Camping experience will be warmly settled after dinner.

Overnight at Taricaya Rescue and Research Center or Lupuna Canopy Camping (Lunch and Dinner provided).

Day 2 - Feathers and Footprints: A Wildlife Symphony

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at 6:30 am. Between 7:00 am and 8:40 am, join the resident ornithologist to study and identify local bird species or visit the observation platform tower.

At 10:00 am, accompany scientists in the study and camera trapping of jaguars, pumas, and other wildlife. Return to the Rescue Center by 11:30 am for lunch.

In the afternoon at 3:00 pm, participate in the preparation of diets for rescued animals and explore the facilities. At 6:00 pm, learn about the successful spider monkey program, focusing on the care and feeding of rescued baby spider monkeys.

Dinner is served at 7:00 pm, followed by an optional night walk through the forest at 8:00 pm. Retire for the night at 9:00 pm.

Day 3 - Lake Sandoval & Riverside Sunsets

An early start at 5:00 am with breakfast precedes a boat trip to Lake Sandoval in the Tambopata National Reserve. Explore the lake by canoe, spotting caimans, birds, giant otters, and monkeys. Return by 10:30 am for lunch.

In the afternoon at 5:00 pm, enjoy a relaxing float down the Madre de Dios River in inflatable boats, embracing a colorful riverside sunset. Dinner at 7:30 pm is followed by an optional night walk in search of nocturnal wildlife at 8:00 pm. Retire for the night at 9:00 pm.

Day 4 - Jungle Farewell

The final day starts with breakfast at 7:00 am. Departure from the Reserve by boat depends on the group's flight schedule, ensuring you reach Puerto Maldonado for check-in between 11:15 am and 3:10 pm.

Catch your flight back to Lima, or another destination, at 1:15 pm or 5:10 pm, depending on your chosen airline. The itinerary concludes, with the return to Puerto Maldonado aligned with the group's earliest flight.

Michael Tweddle is a photographer and conservationist, specializing in guided nature tours and photography expeditions in some of the world’s most biodiverse regions. With decades of on-the-ground experience—particularly in the Peruvian Amazon—he brings deep local knowledge of ecosystems, wildlife, and cultures, creating highly immersive and educational journeys.

With a wealth of experience capturing the allure of the Amazon, Michael's work has adorned books, articles, and various media, showcasing the region's unparalleled biodiversity. Join him for a captivating journey into the heart of one of the world's most remarkable natural wonders.

He has collaborated with leading institutions, including the Smithsonian (notably the book Amarakaeri: Connecting Biodiversity) and the Pulitzer Center, contributing to projects on biodiversity and environmental threats like illegal logging.

Michael’s contributions extend beyond storytelling—he documented the first known golden (leucistic) Andean bear, and his work has inspired national conservation initiatives in Peru, including wildlife coin series and postal collections.

His photography has been exhibited internationally (Spain, Australia, UK, UAE and more) and has earned awards in prestigious competitions, with works like Two in One and Amazon Reflection receiving top honors.
