Day 1 - Arrival at Cusco & Sacred Valley Journey
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Puerto Maldonado airport or your hotel. We embark on a scenic journey along the Interoceanic Highway, traveling for about an hour before reaching the quaint town of Alegría. From here, the road transitions into a rustic gravel path that winds through lush, towering tropical forests, offering glimpses of Peru’s diverse flora.
Arriving at the remote village of Lucerna on the banks of the Las Piedras River, we board a motorized canoe for a two-hour voyage upstream. As we navigate through the serene waters, surrounded by the symphony of jungle life, you’ll enjoy a delicious box lunch. By late afternoon, we reach the pristine Lago Soledad, where you’ll have free time to explore the lodge’s property or simply unwind amidst the beauty of the Amazon.
Dinner will be served at the lodge, where the evening sounds of the jungle will lull you into the rhythms of nature.

Day 2 - Morning Safari & Rainforest Exploration
Wake up at 5:30 AM to the haunting calls of howler monkeys echoing through the treetops. With the first light of dawn, we paddle across the still waters of the lake on a catamaran, enjoying morning coffee as the jungle comes to life. Keep an eye out for giant otters playfully swimming, maquisapa monkeys swinging from branches, and an array of birdlife, from majestic herons to colorful kingfishers. After this tranquil experience, we return to the lodge for a hearty Amazonian breakfast.
Post-breakfast, we embark on a leisurely 4 km hike through the rainforest, following trails that meander beneath the towering Kapok and Ironwood trees. Along the way, our expert guide will help you spot wildlife that may cross our path, from curious monkeys to colorful frogs and insects. After a flavorful lunch featuring local Amazonian cuisine, enjoy some downtime before we head out for a river cruise on a traditional Peke Peke canoe. As we float along, the sun sets behind the forest, casting golden reflections on the water. We end the day with a light dinner, retiring early to prepare for the adventures ahead.

Day 3 - Canopy Tower & Island Exploration
Rise early again at 5:30 AM for a magical experience atop the 32-meter high canopy tower, offering a bird’s-eye view of the lake and rainforest canopy. As the sun rises, you’ll sip coffee while taking in the breathtaking panorama, spotting birds and possibly some mammals waking up for the day. After this peaceful moment, we return to the lodge for breakfast and then set off on a two-hour nature walk through the forest on the lake’s island. The trail offers an intimate encounter with the Amazon’s dense vegetation, and your guide will help you identify unique species of plants and wildlife.
In the afternoon, after lunch, you have the option to join another catamaran trip across the lake, where you might encounter more wildlife or choose to explore the surroundings at your own pace. The day winds down with the sounds of the jungle, leaving you in awe of the biodiversity surrounding you.

Day 4 - Excursion to the Clay Licks
Experience an early departure to witness the vibrant macaws gathering at the clay lick for their morning feast. Watch as they cautiously approach the clay wall, their colors bright against the forest backdrop, always alert to their surroundings. After this incredible display of nature, we return to the lodge for lunch.

Day 5 - Huascar River Exploration & Leisure
Today is a day of relaxation and discovery. After a leisurely breakfast, we venture out for a picnic lunch along the Huascar River, exploring its banks and enjoying a quiet day in nature. The afternoon is free for you to take in the beauty of Lago Soledad, whether by the lake house or strolling through the forest paths. It’s a perfect time to recharge, meditate, or simply marvel at the tranquility of the Amazon.

Day 6 - Macaw Clay Lick & Return
Leave the lodge at 5:45 am to head to the macaw clay lick near Lucerna. Observe parrots and macaws in the treetops and clay lick until 10 am. Enjoy breakfast while waiting. Begin the return to Puerto Maldonado, arriving around noon for lunch. After lunch, you'll be transferred to the airport.
Transfer to the airport and end of services (Breakfast included).

Michael Tweddle is a photographer and conservationist, specializing in guided nature tours and photography expeditions in some of the world’s most biodiverse regions. With decades of on-the-ground experience—particularly in the Peruvian Amazon—he brings deep local knowledge of ecosystems, wildlife, and cultures, creating highly immersive and educational journeys.
With a wealth of experience capturing the allure of the Amazon, Michael's work has adorned books, articles, and various media, showcasing the region's unparalleled biodiversity. Join him for a captivating journey into the heart of one of the world's most remarkable natural wonders.
He has collaborated with leading institutions, including the Smithsonian (notably the book Amarakaeri: Connecting Biodiversity) and the Pulitzer Center, contributing to projects on biodiversity and environmental threats like illegal logging.
Michael’s contributions extend beyond storytelling—he documented the first known golden (leucistic) Andean bear, and his work has inspired national conservation initiatives in Peru, including wildlife coin series and postal collections.
His photography has been exhibited internationally (Spain, Australia, UK, UAE and more) and has earned awards in prestigious competitions, with works like Two in One and Amazon Reflection receiving top honors.
